I'm sitting here on my last day in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic...
Sun is shining. Breeze is perfect. And I'm soaking it all in before I head back home to Florida.
I just wrapped up speaking at my buddy's mastermind event and coaching a bunch of amazing entrepreneurs and coaches.
And in one of those conversations, something came up that I knew I had to share with you.
How do you get more of the right people to respond to your content?
Whether it's your Facebook or Instagram posts...
Your emails...
Your ads (so you're not just getting "people of Walmart" leads)...
It all boils down to ONE thing:
Messaging.
What Is Messaging, Really?
Messaging is super simple if you strip it down:
It's saying the right words in the right way to the right people... in a way that makes what you do feel different.
But HOW do you actually do that?
I’m gonna break it down for you step-by-step.
Because once you understand this?
You'll start attracting better leads, higher quality clients, and way more action from your content.
I learned this the hard way back when I transitioned from owning a gym into the online fitness coaching space.
Let me give you some quick context first...
Quick Backstory: How I Learned Messaging The Hard (and Expensive) Way
When I owned my gym in South Florida, we were in a brutally competitive market.
It was saturated with every type of bootcamp, gym, CrossFit, boutique studio you could imagine.
But we made it.
Not only that... we had an investor come into the gym. He invested a ton of money — close to $80,000 between us — to help us franchise the brand.
And when we hired a professional franchising company, one of the BIGGEST lessons I learned was:
If you want people to buy your stuff — whether it's a gym franchise, a coaching program, whatever — your MESSAGE better be crystal clear and DIFFERENT.
That experience taught me how to properly position and message a brand so it stood out in a crowded market.
So when I moved into online fitness coaching?
I brought that same principle with me.
Only… it wasn't that easy at first.
I was posting good content.
Getting "decent" engagement.
But…
People didn't see me as different.
The leads I got weren't my "dream clients."
I was attracting a lot of low-quality leads.
It wasn't until I got super specific — helping business owners with stubborn belly fat — that everything changed.
Leads got better.
Clients got better.
And sales got way easier.
So let's break this down so you can apply it to YOUR business.
The 3 Layers To Magnetic Messaging
There are three key layers I want to walk you through.
These will help you:
Speak to your dream client's subconscious mind
Influence them to take action
Position yourself differently in your space
Ready?
Let's dive in.
Layer 1: Speak To The Character And Their Conflict
Just like any great movie...
There’s always a character — and that character has a conflict.
In your business, that character is your dream client.
And the conflict is what they’re currently struggling with.
Here's how to get laser clear:
WHO exactly is your dream client?
Not "a niche." Not "women who want to lose weight."
ONE person. Humanize them.
WHAT are their external symptoms?
Visible problems. What are they complaining about?
WHAT are their internal struggles?
How do they feel because of it?
WHAT are they trying to do to solve it right now?
Write down all the "old ways" they're trying: crash diets, endless cardio, chasing quick fixes...
WHY aren't those ways working?
What's keeping them stuck?
Pro Tip:
Imagine you’re writing a movie script.
You need to know every detail about the character’s life so the audience feels emotionally attached.
That's the depth you want here.
The clearer you are?
The more magnetic your marketing becomes.
Layer 2: Introduce A Big Idea (With A Villain)
Now that you know your character and their conflict...
You need to introduce a Big Idea.
Not just another "program" or "solution"... but something that feels FRESH and NEW to them.
And one of the most powerful ways to do this is to introduce a villain.
Just like every great story has a bad guy...
Your ideal client’s story does too.
Here's how to bring it to life:
WHO is the villain?
It could be the restrictive diet culture...
The "grind till you die" hustle mentality...
The broken industry norms keeping them stuck.
Position YOURSELF as the guide.
You’re not the hero. They are.
You're the Obi-Wan. The Gandalf. The mentor who shows them a better way.
Arm them with your Big Idea.
Give them a new opportunity. A better path forward.
"When I was in fitness, I introduced the 'Stubborn Fat Solution.' It wasn't made up. It was the real system I used to lose my own belly fat and taught to my clients."
Today, I do the same thing with The In Demand Coach Model — helping coaches build fully booked businesses without chasing clients.
Your Big Idea should either:
Solve a big external problem
OR help them step into an aspirational identity
Ideally, both.
And it should be rooted in truth, not some "marketing gimmick" you made up.
Layer 3: Tell Stories That Bridge The Gap
Finally...
You need to connect everything with storytelling.
Storytelling is the bridge between their current reality... and the new future you're offering.
There are three main types of stories you want to tell:
1. Your Backstory
Why do you do what you do?
What struggles, experiences, and breakthroughs led you here?
Important: It doesn't have to be some "extraordinary" story.
Ordinary stories are what people actually relate to the most.
(That's something I learned firsthand when I was on American Ninja Warrior and got coached by NBC producers.)
2. Your Unique Mechanism Story
What led you to the specific way you help people?
For example:
When I first started online, I was bouncing between $5K and $15K/month.
It was stressful. Inconsistent. And even though I was getting tons of likes on my content, I wasn't getting enough clients.
Until...
I tried running a very specific style of content sequence that led into a masterclass.
And that one change helped me collect over $33,000 in a month.
That story is why I teach content, messaging, and conversion the way I do now.
3. Client Stories
Show proof.
Show transformation.
Make them feel like "If they did it, I can too."
Like Alex — working manholes in NYC, terrified to go live, staring at the "go live" button for 3 hours... and now running a thriving fitness brand with an audience of over a million.
Or Rachel — who had 2,870 Facebook friends, and in just 2 weeks after dialing in her messaging and content, generated 197 leads and closed 13 clients into her challenge.
Stories are your superpower.
Use them.
Final Thoughts: Why This Matters Now More Than Ever
Listen...
You don't need to "do more."
You don't need to "post more."
You don't need to "hustle harder."
You just need to:
Speak to the right character and conflict
Introduce a meaningful Big Idea with a villain
Tell better stories that connect the dots
That's how you get more of the right people to respond to you.
