Do THIS to Become a Micro-Celebrity in Your Niche (7-Step Authority System)
I’m about to walk you through a seven-step formula I’ve used to become a micro-celebrity in multiple different niches. This system has allowed me to attract perfect-fit clients for free, build multiple six-figure businesses, and serve thousands of people—all without chasing vanity metrics or “insta-fame.”
What is a Micro-Celebrity?
A micro-celebrity isn’t about having millions of followers. It’s about getting a lot of attention from a small audience—the right audience.
For years, I’ve only had between 5,000–8,000 followers across social media and my email list combined. Yet that small audience fueled multiple six-figure businesses and gave me the freedom to live my passions.
This isn’t about chasing likes. It’s about building a tribe of people who want to buy your stuff and who you can serve deeply.
There’s an old concept from Kevin Kelly called “1,000 True Fans.” He argued that if artists had just 1,000 people who truly supported them, they could make a living. Well, as a coach or consultant, you don’t even need that many. Imagine if you had just 100, or even 50, true fans consistently buying from you. You’d have an incredible business.
So the question is: how do you carve your own lane, become in-demand, and position yourself as the go-to authority in your sub-niche?
That’s what this 7-step system will show you.
Step 1: Nail Your Core Message
This is the foundation. Without it, nothing else matters.
Your core message is what makes you a magnetic identity—what makes you stand out from the sea of competitors. There are two critical components:
Articulating the problem better than your clients can.
When you describe their pain so well that they feel seen, they’ll naturally assume you have the solution. Like a doctor who perfectly explains your symptoms—you instantly trust them.Entering the conversation in your client’s mind.
Don’t teach from where you are. Speak to where they are. Meet them at their level of awareness and guide them forward.
“If you can articulate the problem better than your client, they’ll assume you have the solution.”
Finally, you need a unique idea or big idea that positions you differently. For example:
In my fitness business, I had the Stubborn Belly Fat Solution.
Today, I talk about Magic Messaging and my Conversion Content Campaigns framework.
That unique solution becomes your differentiator—and the anchor of your micro-celebrity status.
Step 2: Show Up Consistently & Publicly
Visibility is everything. People can’t follow a ghost.
You need at least two core platforms:
Top-of-funnel connection platform – Facebook or Instagram, where you post stories, short content, and build initial trust.
Relationship-building platform – I love email for this. It bypasses algorithms and keeps you in control.
And here’s the kicker: you also need long-form content (YouTube, podcast, blogs). Why?
Google’s 7-11-4 framework shows that a buyer typically consumes:
7 hours of content
Across 11 different touchpoints
On 4 platforms
before buying.
Short-form alone won’t cut it. Long-form builds depth, trust, and authority.
Workshops and masterclasses are also powerful for visibility. Just make sure you pair them with Conversion Content Campaigns to drive consistent traffic and engagement.
Step 3: Build a Tribe (Not Just an Audience)
A thousand true fans beat 10,000 random followers any day.
Here’s how I’ve built tribes in different niches:
Pour into people – Daily live videos, free calls, showing up to serve.
Run small events – Workshops and masterclasses deepen connection.
Create in-group language – Every tribe has its lingo. Mine uses terms like Magic Messaging and In Demand. This creates a sense of identity.
When you show up consistently, you don’t just grow an audience. You form a movement.
Step 4: Leverage Storytelling & Relatability
Your ordinary story is your extraordinary advantage.
When I first got cast on American Ninja Warrior in 2019, I asked a producer: “How do I maximize my chances of getting on the show?” His answer was simple: “Your story.”
People don’t resonate with extreme, untouchable stories. They resonate with real ones.
Don’t just share how-to tips. Share:
Your origin story (why you started)
Client success stories
Everyday stories (like the time I saved a man from drowning while holding an anchor—true story, and I tied it back to “Ocean Ninja Warrior training”).
Stories cut through the noise of a world flooded with information. They move people emotionally and position you as a trusted guide.
Step 5: Get Seen on Other People’s Platforms (OPP)
Want to multiply your exposure? Borrow audiences.
Podcasts – Guest on shows in your niche.
Local media – Appear on TV segments or local business spotlights.
Events – Speak at community or industry events.
You don’t need the biggest platform. Start where you are. Even small podcasts and local appearances elevate your authority. Just avoid the trap of fake media—people can smell when it’s manufactured.
Step 6: Monetize Your Authority
This is where so many influencers fail. They have attention, but not revenue.
You must align your offers with your authority. Make it clear, compelling, and easy for someone to take the next step with you.
Over time, you want to become “the person” in your space. People now say, “Go see Jason—he’s the messaging and content guy.” That’s branding at work.
When people know you for something, your authority skyrockets.
Step 7: Play the Long Game
Here’s the truth: becoming a micro-celebrity doesn’t happen in 30 days.
It’s about showing up consistently, executing this system, and letting it compound. With time, you’ll:
Nail your message
Publish more long-form content
Build a loyal tribe
Tell powerful stories
Get on other people’s platforms
Monetize your authority
The magic happens in the repetition. Authority compounds.
Bonus: Squeeze the Juice Out of Everything
Most people create incredible assets—workshops, podcasts, videos—and then let them die after one post. Big mistake.
Smart business owners leverage every piece of content:
Promote it across platforms
Repurpose it into smaller posts
Drive traffic to it long after it’s live
Platforms like YouTube give your content long-term shelf life. A great workshop or podcast episode can be reused for years. That’s leverage.
Final Thoughts
This seven-step system has worked for me in every niche I’ve touched: from owning a gym, to building an online fitness business, to now coaching entrepreneurs on messaging and content.
Becoming a micro-celebrity is about attention, authority, and consistency. You don’t need millions of followers—you just need to become the go-to guide for your niche.
So go out there. Nail your message. Show up publicly. Build your tribe. Tell your stories. Get on other people’s platforms. Monetize it. Play the long game.
And watch as you rise into the micro-celebrity status your niche has been waiting for.
